Festival of Children Foundation Shares 5 Ways to Lend a Helping Hand

Costa Mesa, CA (June 10, 2009) – Festival of Children Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity
whose mission is to improve the lives of children by strengthening the charities that serve them, has  gathered five fun and heartwarming ways to lend a helping hand with Dad this Father’s Day weekend.

By encouraging families to volunteer, fathers can pass along valuable skills to their children who willhave the opportunity to learn the importance of assisting one’s community.

1. Help Build a Family’s Future:
Take that tree house project up a notch and help build a home for a family in need. Contact
your local Habitat for Humanity branch at www.habitat.org for details on how you can help. Kids
can also volunteer with Dad to advocate for Habitat’s work by raising awareness for the 2 billion
people around the world living in slum housing.

2. Dad’s Famous Chili:
Several organizations, such as Ronald McDonald House Charities, offer homemade meals to
their residents in need. Volunteers can contact their local branch to coordinate a special
Father’s Day lunch complete with Dad’s famous chili, BBQ, or other signature dishes
www.rmhc.org.

3. Mentor a Child, Change a Life:
Whether or not you have children of your own, there is no greater gift than helping out a child in
need. Being a Big Brother is one of the most rewarding things you will ever do. As a mentor
with Big Brothers Big Sisters, you get to be a kid again for one hour a week while you give
a child the invaluable gift of your friendship. Visit www.bbbs.org to get started.

4. Support Dads in the Military
Demonstrate your support to a soldier in harm’s way by sending Father’s Day cards, hygiene
products or a simple email to show you appreciate their sacrifice and time away from their
children. Contact www.uso.org, www.operationhomefront.net or www.anysoldier.com for more

5. Take Out the Trash:
Bond with Father Nature! Bring empty garbage bags to the beach and fill them with trash,
separating plastic and glass for recycling. To find more local opportunities to conserve our
planet, contact The Nature Conservancy www.nature.org or Surfrider Foundation
www.surfrider.org.
